Accounting FAQ - Shop / Manufacturing / WIP

Why is my closed work order showing on the WIP Report?

The status of the work order does not close the work order for WIP purposes. The work order must be released and/or billed to be properly closed.

How do I find the cause of a Delta on the WIP Valuation Report?

  • Check for manual entries to the WIP or FG GL accounts
  • Check for inappropriate batches posted for the WIP or FG accounts (AP Adjustments, AR Adjustments, Invoices, etc.)
  • Run the following reports for further detail of WIP (tie to Total WIP on Valuation)
    • WIP Recap Report (in Shop Control Reports menu)
    • MO WIP Report (in Manufacturing Reports menu)
  • Export the following for further detail of the GL (tie to Total GL on Valuation)
  • Search GL Details/Balance Sheet (in General Ledger menu)
    • The key to telling where the cost should be sitting on the GL is the Work Order Disposition field:
      • External WOs move from WIP to FG when reconciled and from FG to COG when final billing is posted.
      • Internal WOs move from WIP to FG when reconciled and from FG to INV when released to stock.
      • MOs move from WIP to COG when reconciled. (When built, cost goes to MO Received FG GL distribution)
  • If you are interested in further explanation or help in reconciling your delta, you can follow the link below to receive a proposal for some time with our Professional Services department. http://www.componentcontrol.com/services/training
